Classic Steakhouse Dining at the London Steakhouse Co in Chelsea

I’ve lived in Chelsea now for just over 5 years and within that time it has changed so much. My favourite cupcake shop has closed down, Vivienne Westwood is still going strong with her hideous costume jewellery, the local Italian at the top of my road has been replaced by a rather awesome seafood restaurant called Chicama and Starbucks has gone – and that’s just in the last year or so and within a minutes walk from my flat. Yet with everything changing, once place has somehow managed to continue to attract the crowds with only a name change in that time, it’s called – The London Steakhouse Co.

If you didn’t already know, The London Steakhouse Co is owned by Marco Pierre White and been around since 2008. Personally I find it all a little overpriced for what it is, but thankfully no matter what day you want to dine here you can always find an offer. 50% off, set menus and who knows what else. If you can get a deal, it can all become very good value for money. We started our meal here in true Foodaholic fashion with a glass of chilled Champagne, paired with a starter of grilled langoustines, smothered in garlic butter and drizzled with lemon juice.

One of the best things on offer at the London Steakhouse Co is one if its sides. Potato croquettes drizzled with truffle oil and topped with shavings of Parmesan. They’re so good in fact you’ll want to order two portions – because you won’t want to share. Apparently a signature of London Steakhouse Co is its beef wellington, but I may have to disagree. I was a little disappointed. The pastry wasn’t quite cooked all the way through and the meat lacked seasoning inside. It wasn’t terrible, but compared to the steaks they offer here it didn’t quite match up in satisfaction.

The steaks here really are excellent. Large, Juicy, smokey, tender. I got a bit carried away and ordered a gigantic 12oz sirloin, cooked to a perfect medium rare as requested and seasoned very well. They get their meats from a producer named Aubrey Allen which I know from reputation, having established themselves in 1933 and with their butchery store in Coventry. The London Steakhouse Co isn’t called a steakhouse for no reason, they really know how to cook a good piece of grilled steak. The side of panzanella salad was fantastic too.

Desserts weren’t too bad either. Simple and classic, but perfectly satisfying. My love affair with sticky toffee pudding got extended to yet another evening here. Thick, luscious and hugely calorific – but worth every mouthful. It was even better washed down with a glass of the matching sweet wine. Vanilla cheesecake was great too. Creamy, full of vanilla pods and the summer berries sauce cut into it all perfectly.

We had a lovely evening at the London Steakhouse Co and from my previous visit a few years back, its most certainly improved. It’s not going to be a life changing experience or become a destination restaurant anytime soon, but as a local neighbourhood steakhouse it’s not a bad choice. Perhaps next time I’ll give the beef wellington a miss, but with a slab of that sirloin, side of croquettes and sticky toffee pudding to finish I’d be very happy indeed.

NB: I was invited to review and elements of my meal were complimentary. All views are as always, my own. My views are not influenced by anyone other than my own palate and slightly poor eyesight.

I went to the London Steakhouse Co in Liverpool Street recently for a birthday and have to say I agree with you on the whole – everything was nice enough but just not wow, especially compared to some of the great steak places in London…plus our bill was pretty steep!

What was the name of your favourite cupcake place that closed down? The langoustines look appetising and I’m all over that cheesecake! Do they have a big burger selection or mostly only steak? Strangely I hate steak but love burgers!

I can’t resist sticky toffee pudding either, it’s so good! The steaks look yummy, and those croquettes sound heavenly, I definitely wouldn’t want to share either. Yummy.
