With each year that passes there are more and more people working remotely around the globe, and new destinations are constantly being found which offer a great place for digital nomads and remote workers to base themselves. Somewhere which has certainly risen in popularity in recent years, including amongst some of those working with us here at ICTP, is Greece. There is so much that this country has to offer remote workers and here is why so many people are enjoying the Greek life as they work.
Strategic
Greek is a country which strategically makes a lot of sense for many digital nomads. From here you can access the Arabic world, Europe and north Africa with ease and this is a huge draw for many. Flights to and from Athens are reasonably priced and not too lengthy which makes it a highly accessible nation for travelers and workers from all over the world.
Best of Both
The key to a great base country is that it is able to offer remote workers the infrastructure which they can use to get their jobs done, but also has a holiday destination feel to it so that they can enjoy the social aspect of life. Greece is ideal for this and one can easily work hard in Athens from Mon-Fri and then head off to a glorious island for the weekend, and be there in no time at all. Greece’s economic downturn was heard all over the world and whilst they went through a tough few years they have now very much recovered. The stronger economy has helped to level out the cost of living and for anyone wishing to live and work remotely here, you can count on a very reasonable pricing structure. From property renting to co-working spaces, Greece offers great rates which is another reason why it has become so popular amongst the remote working community.
Community
The remote working community that I have just mentioned is another reason why people are flocking here. There has been a huge focus by Greece on driving forward new businesses and there are many start-up projects which are being launched. The result of this is a community of hungry and innovative remote workers looking to get the business off the ground, and this has created a really positive environment for anyone who wishes to come here and work remotely themselves. The more people that are in Greece living this lifestyle, the more infrastructure there is being created.
This is a great country to visit, rich in history and gorgeous in its beauty, it is also a wonderful place to come and base yourself for a remote working lifestyle.
