The Top Country to Visit on Every Continent

In most parts of the world, fall is the best time of the year to travel. The summer crowds have gone down, and the seasons are just beginning to change. What could be more wonderful than seeing someplace new without the crowds, extreme weather, and high prices?

In case you were in need of some autumn travel inspiration, here are the top countries to visit on every continent.

1. North America: United States

The USA might have extreme weather most of the year, but autumn is when the seasons really come alive. While the U.S. is a diverse, sprawling country, many states transform when the weather begins to cool. To take in the crisp mountain air, visit Pacific Northwest cities like Portland, Oregon or Seattle, Washington. Sure, it might rain sometimes (more like all of the time!), but you can’t beat the natural wonders and mild temperatures. Another picture-perfect spot is the Northeast, but keep an eye out for winter storms which can be extreme even in the fall.

2. Europe: Scotland

If you want to fully indulge in the colors and views of autumn, you have to book a trip to Scotland. Parts of this destination are nicknamed “Big Trees Country” because of their breathtaking beauty. You’ll see tree-covered hillsides, gorgeous rivers, and the most scenic of views. The best region for taking all of this splendor in is Perthshire which is home to Knock Hill and the Loch Tummel, both of which are fall must-sees.

3. Asia: Japan

You’ll want to avoid Southeast Asia during this season since the monsoon rains are still in full swing. Instead, visit Japan to see the shift between seasons. The leaves of the maple and ginkgo trees turn a brilliant shade of yellow and red, and the cities are bustling with energy. Visit one of the hot springs or onsens to enjoy the cooling weather like a local. While you can’t go wrong with any of Japan’s famous cities, the northern region will feature “classic” fall weather, while the south is much warmer during this time of year.

4. Oceania: Australia

Because Australia is in the southern hemisphere, the seasons are reversed. During our fall, Australia is experiencing spring. This is a great time to explore this continent since the weather is much milder than in the summer months, and there aren’t as many crowds. For natural beauty, head to Kosciuszko National Park. Where to stay? You could enjoy impeccable accommodation in amazing apartments that overview the mountain like Lantern apartments or you can opt for a self contained unit. This is the prime spot for snow sports, camping, cave exploring, and you can even go mountain biking. You won’t want to miss out on the best time of year to see Australia’s highest mountain.

5. Africa: South Africa

Like Australia, Africa also experiences spring during our fall in the southern countries like South Africa. That makes this the best time to head off on the African adventure you’ve been dreaming of. South Africa is home to the Big 5 game reserves, and the weather is starting to warm up at this time of year. There is so much to experience from rolling wine country to natural wonders.

6. South America: Peru

One of the most up-and-coming destinations in South America is Peru. Jump on this country before the rest of the world catches word of just how spectacular it is. The best time to visit is when you’re able to experience sights like Machu Picchu or Cusco without the crowds. September to November is the time of year when Peru is transitioning between Winter and Summer so you can escape the rainy season and the heat.

Where will you travel next? From classic fall sights to the unconventional, there is so much to love about exploring during this time of year. Start planning your trip today to escape the crowds in between peak seasons.
