The Atlantic Hotel Review: Returning Back to My Favourite Luxury Hotel in Jersey

The secrets out, I’m in love with Jersey. OK, well it’s no secret, you all know that by now – but Jersey is such a special place for me and especially if the sun is shining. Over the last two years, we’ve visited Jersey five times and I simply can’t get enough of it.

No matter how many times we visit, there’s still something new to explore, especially when staying at The Atlantic Hotel. Jersey is such a seasonal island and so every month there are new events, different food produce and of course ever-changing weather patterns. When you arrive at The Atlantic Hotel, you’re immediately taken back by its charm, from those wooden staircases to the giant carp and trickling sounds from the water fountain running through the lobby area.

Check-in is very swift and while your bags make their way to your room, complimentary coffee/tea and home-made biscuits are provided to settle you in. A lovely little touch and especially more so as you get to admire the lobby and seek out your holiday hideaway for the rest of your stay. We loved the wooden panelled snug, filled with board games and away from the passing hotel guests.

We stayed in one of the hotels standard ocean view rooms, which has a very nautical, almost colonial feel about it which I love. Those bright white and sea blue hues seem only fitting when looking out from the bedroom window. A comfortable king size bed, full length windows, marble en-suite bathrooms and toiletries by Molton Brown. I really loved our room and it’s the same we stayed in previously, location wise. My only comment now is the bathroom is ready for an upgrade.

These were the absolutely stunning views from our room, looking down over the outside pool, across the lush green estate and over the cliff edge to the turquoise blue oceans.

Once you’ve settled in, head down to the bar as it’s the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon, pre or post cocktail. We settled for an expertly crafted negroni. If weather allows, the bar and restaurant spill out onto the terrace and if the sun is shining – it feels like a tropical paradise. You can read all about my full fine dining experience in the hotels Ocean Restaurant HERE.

The Atlantic Hotel is set in six acres of private grounds, adjoining La Moye championship golf course and has been under family ownership since it opened in 1970. It’s also part of the Small Luxury Hotels of The World group and you can see why. The outside terrace is quite frankly stunning, as is the pool area and garden views. If you’re not quite brave enough for a dip then grab your favourite magazine and take in the sunshine or play a game of tennis for those who like something a little more physical. If it gets too chilly, there’s an indoor spa with a warm pool, sauna, jacuzzi and gym.

Whilst there are so many places to visit in Jersey, some of the most picturesque are right on your doorstep when staying at this hotel. Walk to the end of the hotels ground, across the hidden pathway and down the sandy hill where you’ll come across quick-moving grass snakes and lots of hares/rabbits jumping around – all while looking out across St Ouen’s Bay.

When the tide is out on St Ouen’s Bay, it’s for me the most interesting, seeing the untouched sea bed stripped back. Wildlife is everywhere, so get your wellies on and start exploring. If you’re quick, you can even get up close with La Rocco Tower, which you can now stay in. Though I’m not sure I’d be brave enough, especially if a storm was brewing!

If you fancy venturing a little further, but still on foot then there are some equally stunning locations close by and you can start by climbing the hill furthest west of St Ouen’s Bay, just by La Pulente pub. Petit Port Beach will be your first discovery on the walking trail which is an absolutely stunning little bay and most of the time you’ll have the beach and the turquoise waters all to yourself. A little further up is La Corbiere Lighthouse and if you walk a little further up there’s another hidden bay, inaccessible I believe but with a wildlife preservation site which is worth exploring.

Special mention has to go to the Jersey sunsets because these really are some of the finest you’re likely to come across.  From your room, from the beach or looking out over the illuminated swimming pool at night with those orange and red backdrops lighting up the sky. Jersey is also an amazing place for looking at the night sky. There is barely any light pollution and on a clear night you can even see the faint outlines of the galaxies.

Our final day and not wanting to leave, we kept breakfast and those amazing views lasting as long as we possibly could. The most delicious American style pancakes topped with maple syrup and banana for me. And a chorizo & coriander omelette for him. Arguably one of the best breakfasts in Jersey.

We had yet another lovely time in Jersey and an even better time coming back to The Atlantic Hotel. Those walks on the beach looking out across the sandy beaches, fine dining to get exciting about and views to never forget. If you’re looking for a hotel stay in which has it all – The Atlantic Hotel is it.

What a beautiful hotel, ashamedly we have still not been to Jersey but we only hear so many people say such fatalistic things about it!
