Savage Garden Bar Review: Devilishly Delicious Cocktails and Spectacular City Views

With so many new restaurants and bars popping up across the capital, I’ve completely lost track of what’s where and who’s opened what. We as Londoners are completely spoilt when it comes to dining and as humans were at an age where eating out and drinking in bars in now a regular, sometimes daily occurrence. I myself haven’t cooked at home in months and I wouldn’t have it any other way (mainly thanks to Deliveroo for the food).

With all that mind and our now cocktail/restaurant obsession, we visited one of London’s newest and trendiest cocktail bars – Savage Garden. Dubbed as London’s wildest sky-high destination, Savage Garden, brings decadent décor, fantastic London skyline views, dramatic cocktails and a small selection of dishes to Tower Hill.

Located on the top floor of DoubleTree by Hilton, the refurb they’ve given this place is looking fantastic. Very sultry and very decadent. You almost feel like you’re in Dracula’s ever so fancy cocktail bar if he had one. Plush velvet finishes, marbleised floors and not one, but two outdoor terraces. We started by looking over the cocktail menu which I must say – is very exciting not only to read, but to drink. Especially more so as we visited over Halloween.

Whilst waiting for our cocktails to arrive, the kitchen kindly brought us out a small plate of the goats cheese, pea & tarragon house croquettes – something you really need to order ten portions of because they’re so good. Soft & gooey on the inside, crunchy on the outside.

Choosing a cocktail here is never an easy choice, but if I had to pick my favourite it would be the ‘Devil’s Advocate’. Appropriately named and looking very horny, this drink was a mix of Olmeca Blanco, pink grapefruit, lemon, blackcurrant and fresh sage. Pair it with the bowl of burratina, smoked tomatoes, basil and London honey.

One of Savage Garden’s most popular cocktails was the ‘Wild Poison’. An expertly crafted blend of Makers Mark bourbon, Merlet apricot brandy, cloudy apple juice, smoked pine syrup, Campari and a ‘poison apple’ for garnish. Delicious and dangerously easy to drink.

Arriving a little hungry, we ordered one of the larger plates. Gargantuan beef short ribs, smothered in a rich coconut marinade and served with a side of their house savageslaw. The meat was falling off the bone at just the sight of my fork and to really see how big of portion was – you’ll need to order one for yourself.

Continuing with more cocktails, we delved into the most unusual drink of our evening – ‘The Horny Beast’. Beefeater Pink gin, Aluna Coconut rum, almond, lime, green strawberry, smoke & oak bitters, apple, rhubarb & cinnamon soda – this drink has more ingredients than I could keep up with. The texture is at first a little odd, almost creamy & fizzy at the same time – but each sip you take is so intriguing that you can’t help but be enticed in. Finished off with a strawberry, lime and black pepper cracker – this is one very interesting cocktail.

If you’ve still got room for a little more food, order the citrus buttermilk sliders. Succulent juicy chicken, crispy golden batter, kimchi slaw and Korean style ketchup. A touch too sweet if I was being picky, but the perfect cocktail accompaniment.

We finished on some stunning views of London from the terrace and a portion of some dangerously addictive mini doughnuts. They come with mini syringes for injecting into the warm sugar-coated balls, strawberry jam and salted caramel – delicious of course.

We had a lovely time at Savage Garden and when comes to a city filled with cocktail bars galore, Savage Garden has in my eyes – firmly put itself on the map for some seriously stellar cocktails. The food is good enough, the cocktails feel & taste award-winning and the views are stunning. Come Summer or Winter, Savage Garden has a lot to offer.
