Royal Lancaster London Hotel Review: A Room with a View Overlooking Hyde Park

London has become a city full of so many opportunities, incredible restaurant openings and luxurious hotel constructions that for the existing business which created this city – they’re really having to re-think they way they work. With so much competition nowadays for most businesses it’s either shut the doors or up your game. Some go one way, but others such as the Royal Lancaster London who have spent 80 million on a refurbishment and put themselves firmly on the map as one of central London’s top luxury hotels.

If you’ve been inside this hotel whilst it was known as Lancaster London, I very much doubt you’d even know you were in the same property. Step in through the shiny new entrance and into the new lobby area where a world of marble heaven awaits. Floor to ceiling white Carrara marble, gold lacquered shelves, brass and bronze in every corner and dark brown wood adding a nice cosy touch.

After a very swift check in at that gorgeous golden coated reception desk, our bags were whisked away to our room and we began to make our way up to the 13th floor where our newly refurbished executive room awaits.

Though not before taking in the beauty of the brand new and opulent staircase which sweeps around the first floor and is constructed of 300 sqm of that gorgeous white Carrara marble. As you arrive at the top you’ll find gorgeous bronze and copper chandeliers and more cosy seating areas for hiding from the crowds.

The whole hotel has that lovely new smell to it too and especially so when you arrive up on the 13th floor. Shiny new hallways leading to the rooms and new prints adoring the walls. Our room was at the very end of the corridor and the first thing you’ll notice after popping the key card into the door and opening your room – is those magnificent views. Not to mention the large king sized bed fitted with a superb mattress and I loved all of the mirror details behind it making the room really open up.

And here they are. Those views looking right out across the whole of London and directly down on Hyde Park. The Shard dominates in the background and during the Summer those bare trees are lush and full. The best time is in the autumn when everywhere you look down at is dotted in shades or oranges and brown.

As well as that feature bed, there’s also some lovely little touches in the room. A large TV and separated lounge area is perfect for catching up on your latest blog post or ordering room service for a working lunch. A small selection books and ornaments, Nespresso machine and a portable mobile which offers free calls across the world during your stay.

Step into the bathroom and more marble features, as does that same gorgeous wood throughout the rest of the hotel. A roomy walk-in shower, large bathtub and toiletries from The White Company to create that extra special spa experience in your room.

If you fancy getting out of your room and exploring the hotel a little more, head back downstairs to the reception area where the new Hyde Lobby Bar awaits. It’s the perfect place for a light breakfast in the morning, spot of lunch in the afternoon or extensive list of wines, spirits and cocktails come the evening.

With its lounge style setting it’s also the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon tea with a few too many glasses of Champagne. I recently sampled the hotels afternoon tea offering for an early Valentines treat which was gorgeous. Read my full review of this afternoon tea HERE.

As the sun sets and you’ve enjoyed yet another relaxing bath back in your room – you then need to decide where to eat from the hotels two evening restaurants. If a deliciously British menu is what you’re looking for then Island Grill will be just what you’re after. Crunchy golden crab fish cakes, succulent steaks and excellent desserts. Just a few of the things you can expect from this hotel restaurant. Read my full review.

But my favourite place to eat was the gorgeous Nipa Thai restaurant. Inside it’s sumptuously decorated in traditional important Thai furniture and the food is as authentic as could be. Writing this has only reminded me and I need to return and see what head chef Sanguan Parr has up his sleeves for 2018. Read my full review of this hidden gem of a restaurant in London.

The next morning after a good sleep, we gazed out of the window for one last morning view over London and with my love of very late morning wake-ups we ordered breakfast to our room. An excellent full-english, ripe strawberries, selection of pastries and freshly sliced charcuterie. We didn’t want to leave, but sadly all good things have to come to an end.

A short taxi ride later and we were back home around the corner, settling back into real life. We had a lovely stay at Royal Lancaster London and if you’ve visited this property before you won’t believe just how much it has changed. So many choices when it comes to food, excellent service and views across London. There are lots of things to like about the newly renovated hotel.

NB: My stay was complimentary. All views are as always, my own. My views are not influenced by anyone other than my own palate and slightly poor eyesight. This afternoon tea really was delicious!
