The Hotel

Cornwall has really captured a piece of my heart. It’s a part of the UK well-known for its rugged coastlines, crystal blue sea, sandy beaches, fresh seafood and crashing waves, it’s like being in the Riviera – yet only a few hours from London. No wonder it’s the perfect Summer getaway for so many. We stayed at the Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa on Fistral Beach in Newquay. A haven of relaxation and views to light u your eyes from every corner. It’s the perfect wedding destination and great for groups offering cocktail and chocolate making masterclasses, events, spa days, competent bar and cosy restaurant – there’s so many reasons why you should all be visiting Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa.

The Room

The hotel has fantastic selection of rooms for different budgets. We stayed in one of the hotels Best rooms, which sits in-between a suite and standard sea view – it was the perfect place to spend the night. Open, bright, modern and with incredible views. The little touches such as complimentary chocolates and sunglasses were a lovely touch. All Best rooms come with LED TV’s, luxury ESPA toiletries, modern bathroom facilities, mini fridge, pure cotton linen and an incredibly comfy double Hypnos bed. The bathroom was particularly a highlight. Almost as big as the bedroom and came complete with a gorgeous bathtub which looks out across the water. Top tip – run a hot bath, fill it with ESPA products, slide the window wide open, order a bottle of Champagne to your room, pour – and relax. It really is the perfect way to prepare before dinner.

The Grounds/What To Do

One thing you’ll quickly come to notice about Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa is its incredible surroundings. Lush greenery, the sandy dunes on the hills, clear blue waters, seafood shacks and surfers galore. There’s such much to do. Leave the hotel to the left and climb the sandy hill to reveal a sun-drenched walking path and close by golf course. Head right and start your decline ono Fistral Beach itself. A golden sandy bay stretched out over half a mile. It’s a surfers paradise and perfect for people watching, paddling or riding the waves. Surfers can head over to the wonderful team at Quicksilver Surf School for lessons tailored to new or experienced surfers. After working up an appetite, you’ll find a small eating, drinking and shopping complex dominated by Rick Stein. We ended up dining at The Fish House. A restaurant owned by Paul Harwood who worked for Rick Steins for over 14 years and comes with stellar credentials. The classic fish & chips Paul serves here, accompanied by legendary chips and homemade tartare sauce was arguably the finest example I’ve had in a long time. I even had an audience of local birds trying hardest to sneak a chip or two. The main harbour town of Newquay is also close by as well as the fantastic Blue Reef Aquarium – great for both children and adults.

The Spa

The Spa is just another key feature of this hotel and is home to a little slice of heaven. Expect a warm clear water pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, gym and a long list of spa treatments. The expert therapists here will cater to your every need, tailoring each treatment to your requirements using only the best products expertly trained by ESPA in the application of all the products and treatments. For those planning to work up a sweat, head to the gym which is fully equipped with state of the art essentials and the Little Fistral Spa focuses on hair, beauty and nail treatments.

The Food & Drink

The food here at Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa offers a sublime seafood focused menu, all set in a gorgeous dining room with an infectious atmosphere and stunning views over the coast. As the sun sets, the warm orange glow pours into the candle lit room – its magical. We enjoyed cocktails outside on the terrace first and for dinner delved into a lovely plate of cod, samphire and chorizo and fresh grilled squid at the hotels Dune Restaurant. You can read my full review HERE. Breakfast the next morning refuelled us for another day of exploring and is by far one of the best self-serve selections I’ve come across recently. You can pour yourself Prosecco (yep), mix up a bloody Mary or drink an array of fruit juices, along with a full continental buffet and hot dishes from the a la carte menu.

The Verdict

Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa was the perfect Cornish retreat and the perfect place to spend our first visit in Cornwall. One thing that makes this hotel truly special is its incredible location. Perched quite literally on the edge of the cliffs, looking straight out over Fistral Beach. The hotel isn’t necessarily the most luxurious you’ll find in Cornwall but its views, staff, spa and food create an ever lasting experience and for that reason I’ll most certainly back.
