The Hotel

Pullman Eindhoven Cocagne Hotel is a business and leisure hotel in the centre of Eindhoven. If it’s your first time visiting this city, it may take a little getting used to. The city really does have a lot to offer but the trick is exploring it to its max. Areas to the north of Eindhoven are mostly accommodated to students – so expect lots of bars, partying and booze – but don’t let that put you off. The centre has some lovely casual brasseries while to the east you’ll find some of the cities best restaurants and bars. The hotel may not look like much from the outside, but it has so much to offer on the inside, with a wealth of amenities. Communal spaces are generous throughout the hotel, along with free computer access, very good wi-fi and even a very attractive smoking room adorned with hand carved furniture. I can’t stress enough how good the complimentary wireless Internet access was throughout the hotel, I didn’t encounter a single connectivity issue. This elegant 4-star hotel is a mere 600 yards from the main railway station and with private parking on site (though this is at a surcharge).

The Rooms

We stayed in a superior room at Pullman Eindhoven Cocagne Hotel which was equipped with an incredibly comfy bed, flat screen TV, small wardrobe, single-seater desk for writing, lounge chair, mini bar and Nespresso facilities for making coffee. The room also offered up complimentary gown/slippers of superior quality. The room did have a small balcony but it certainly wasn’t glamorous and overlooked a car park – fine for smoking but nothing more. What I did love about the room was the Philips Living Colours installation which meant you could control the what looked like a colourful hanging light over the bed, but which was in fact an illusion (a piece of printed glass). The bathroom was nothing out of the ordinary but the rain shower made up for any shortfalls, adding yet another experience to the room. Selection of toiletries were excellent and looked great, filled with all the aromas you could hope for – in fact these were some of the best I’ve yet to experience in a hotel. The room includes a fully stocked mini-bar (at extra cost).

The Spa/Gym/Health & Fitness

The Pullman Eindhoven is very much geared up for Business so it was surprising to find such a well equipped and state of the art spa attached to it. Make your way down the spiral staircases and you’ll find a tranquil escape that is, The Fit and Spa lounge.  Alongside the multitude of treatment rooms, there is a small swimming pool, the latest fitness equipment, Finnish sauna, infra-red sauna, experience shower with four settings and a relaxing lounge area – all of which are free to hotel guests. As far as spas go for business hotels the Pullman Eindhoven really does have it spot on.

The Food & Drink

The Pullman Eindhoven has one restaurant on site, Vestdijk 47 (named after the street it’s on) which features a menu compromised of new French cuisine, but still retaining true European flare. Admittedly I never got to experience the food here at any time of the day, but I’m well-informed the restaurants head chef, Hans Melis, is very capable. My only regret is that I didn’t dine here, next time perhaps. The restaurant serves breakfast through to dinner. For those of you who don’t fancy eating then the hotel has the fabulous, Bar 47 to drink in. Featuring modern, stylish décor, cool and classy shades of grey and walls adorned with bottles of fine wine. The perfect setting to spend ones evening.

The Verdict

As far as business hotels go, Pullman Eindhoven Cocagne Hotel is a fantastic choice when visiting Eindhoven. Originally I had booked a standard room at the hotel and I did find them very basic, but if you’re not happy hen you can always ask for an upgrade (as I did) and will only cost you around 20-30 euro for a room considerably much better. In terms of improvements the basic room offering could be updated, otherwise the hotel was rather splendid and offers much more than just a little luxury to the disconcerting business traveller. I personally can’t wait to visit this hotel again, have a long relax in the spa and hopefully this time get my chance to sample the delicious food on offer in the restaurant.
